There are over 2,300 homeless students so far this year in Jeffco schools and that number continues to rise.
A new partnership between Jeffco's Homeless Services Department and The Jefferson Foundation makes it easier than ever to donate to students and families in need. "These students are all around us,” said Sheree Conyers, Jeffco’s homeless liaison coordinator. "They come to schools during the day, but in the evening their families are sleeping in cars, on friends’ couches or, in motels and shelters.” Money donations to the department's new foundation fund allow homeless department staff to help students with needs that may be unique. "We're able to buy grocery store gift cards, a science calculator, yearbooks, a dress or a tux so the student can go to prom — things that normally we couldn't help with through our current grant funding."
