| Welcome to the 2011-12 school year! This year in Chalk Talk I’m going to have a monthly column about important topics and issues that affect you and your family. This month, members of the Jefferson County Board Education and I am inviting you to take part in an exciting new budget process that’s very “hands-on.” If you’ve ever wondered how the district puts together a $600 million plus operating budget, I’d like to encourage you to sign up for the district’s first Citizens’ Budget Academy (CBA). Approximately 100 of our citizens will learn about where the money comes from and where it goes; the CBA is the first step in the 2012-14 budget development process. Volunteers will be asked to attend six, two-hour sessions where they will learn about the district’s operations and its budget. The CBA begins Tuesday, Sept. 6 and registration is required.
